Some Mark Waldi Radio History:

I have been a DJ my whole life. When I was about 5 years old I loved playing with an old RCA record player my Mom had. You know, 45sand LPs? As a kid I would pretend I was doing a program playing The Beatles, Elvis, The Tornadoes, The Four Seasons, The Beach Boys, Then, my folks gave me a cassette tape recorder for Christmas one year … and that was it! I was recording myself talking and other people talking, making sound effects and putting it all together with MUSIC!

I watched a lot of Bandstand on TV and I used to have dance parties in the garage with the kids across the street.

We had a dirt floor in the garage, so it got kinda dusty. But the music played on! One time so loud a neighbor called the cops on us. It was a fun rebellious moment for us all.

When I went to college, Sam Houston State University, I started my own Mobile DJ business - Sounds In Transit – “Your Kind Of Music When You Want It, Where You Want It, The Way You Like It.” - I was playing DJ music and Mixing Tracks for sororities and fraternities, high schools, company parties, holiday parties, all kinds of events. It was a great time in the 80’s! MUSIC was exploding with New Sounds of Pop and Rock Music!

I got my first radio job in a weird way. I was working at a Radio Shack in my college town of Huntsville, Texas. The Answering Machine in the 80’s was a new and hot electronic gadget that everybody wanted … and I wanted to sell them because they were expensive and I was getting a commission. One thing I discovered was that people hated the sound of their own voice on the recorded outgoing message. - I turned lemons to lemonade and made a custom tape for people and I wrote custom scripts and made it sound funny or whatever they wanted. - I created this one phone message for a plumbing company with a toilet flushing and a woman screaming for help! Somehow the local radio station needed a plumber and called and got the answering machine I had sold with the funny message. The recording made the General Manager of the radio station smile and he asked where that recording came from and the plumber told him it was that kid down at Radio Shack. The General Manager came to visit me personally and took me to lunch and for a tour of his radio station. I went to work there at the End of the Week. My first On The Air Radio Gig.

And so it goes, my radio career has taken me to many radio stations and cities across America: Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Chicago and Salt Lake City.

I love Music and Radio. And People! It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do… Even when I didn’t know what I was doing when I was playing around with the RCA Record Player as a kid, I knew it was something I would always do. It was just play. It still is.

Thanks For Listening!
